Accounting and Taxation in Richmond

Few suburbs pack as much small business into as little space. Swan Street and Bridge Road carry hospitality and retail with thin margins and heavy rosters. Church Street and the Cremorne blocks behind it hold agencies, studios and software companies, most of them operating through a company and paying a mix of employees and contractors. Then there are the warehouse conversions and apartments, filled with people whose returns involve shares, a rental property or income from more than one

The accounting problems follow from that mix. Venues need payroll that survives penalty rates and casual loading, and a BAS that reconciles to the point of sale rather than to a guess. Agencies need a clear line between who is a contractor and who is an employee, because super and payroll tax both hang on the answer. Contractors need the personal services income position checked before they assume a company solves anything. We work on all of it from Kew, which is close enough that a meeting is easy and far enough that most clients simply use the portal.

From the weekly payroll run to the structure review.

How We Look After Richmond Clients

We do not have an office in Richmond. Our nearest is at Shop 6, 140 Cotham Road in Kew, roughly ten minutes away, and that is where Richmond clients are looked after from. We would rather say that plainly than list an address we do not occupy.
In practice it changes very little. Documents go through the secure portal, reviews run by phone or video, and the office is there when a conversation is better face to face. You deal with the same accountant each year regardless of which way you choose.

Common questions

Common Questions From Richmond Clients

Do you have an office in Richmond?

No, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Our nearest office is on Cotham Road in Kew, about ten minutes away, and that is where Richmond clients are looked after from. Most of the work happens through the portal anyway, with reviews by phone or video.

Yes. Hospitality payroll is its own discipline, with casual loading, penalty rates, public holidays and now super on every pay run rather than quarterly. We run it properly and give you the wage cost as a percentage of sales each period, which is the number that actually tells you whether the roster is working.

It depends on how many clients you have, how the work is won and whether your income is mainly from your own skills. If it is, the personal services income rules may attribute the income back to you regardless of the company. That is worth checking before you set anything up, not after.

From 1 July 2026 super guarantee has to reach the employee’s fund within seven business days of each payday. The old quarterly dates are gone. For a venue paying weekly, that means super moves weekly too, and the payroll process has to change even though the amounts have not.

Yes. Plenty of our Richmond clients have never been to an office. Records go through the secure portal, we call or video call to talk through the outcome, and signatures happen electronically. The Kew office is there if you would rather sit down for the bigger conversations.
