Accounting and Taxation in Doncaster
Doncaster and the wider Manningham area have a strong small business culture, much of it family run and a good deal of it connected to property. Around Doncaster Road, Williamsons Road and the Westfield precinct there are restaurants, retail tenancies, medical suites and professional offices. Behind them sit builders and small developers doing a few townhouses at a time, plus households holding property in a mix of personal names, trusts and occasionally a super fund.
Property is where most of the complexity lives. A small development brings GST into a business that has never dealt with it that way, including whether the margin scheme applies and what the contract needs to say before settlement rather than after. A restaurant brings wages, super on every pay run and a BAS that has to reconcile. A family holding several properties needs someone looking across all of them at once. We handle the compliance and raise the structural questions before the concrete is poured, which is the only time they are cheap to answer.

Common Questions From Doncaster Clients
Do you have an office in Doncaster?
No. Our nearest is on Cotham Road in Kew, about fifteen minutes away, and Doncaster clients are looked after from there. Most of the work runs through the portal with reviews by phone or video, which tends to suit people who are on site rather than at a desk.
Do you work with builders and small developers?
Yes, and the GST treatment is where most of the money is won or lost. Whether the margin scheme applies, what the contract says about it, and when to register all need settling before a site is bought. Coming to us after settlement limits what can be done.
We run a restaurant. Can you handle the staff side?
Yes. Wages, penalty rates, super and the BAS all run off the same file, so it makes sense for one team to handle them. Since 1 July 2026 super has to reach the employee’s fund within seven business days of each payday, which changed the process for every hospitality business paying weekly.
Can you take over from our current accountant part way through the year?
Yes, and you do not need to wait for 30 June. We write to your existing accountant for the handover, request your records from the ATO and pick it up from there. Changing mid year is common and is usually less disruptive than people expect.
We hold properties in a few different names. Is that a problem?
Not necessarily, but it does need looking at as one picture rather than several. Which name holds what affects the deductions now and the capital gains later, and the negative gearing rules introduced in 2026 treat properties differently depending on when they were bought. We map the whole holding before advising on any one property.
